The Who Determines the What, How and Where

This title is another way of saying that your relationship will determine your future. You’ve heard of the popular saying: tell me who your friend is and I will tell you who you are. Your relationships matter a lot in you’re your life, that’s why I dedicated a whole blog for it- www.knowhimknowher.blogspot.com. You will get more details about how to have a good relationship, make it work and last long there. Back to our topic. Your relationship adds or subtracts to your life. Every relationship is a withdrawal or deposit in your life. Good relationship is a withdrawal, while bad relationship is a deposit in your life.

No man is an island is another popular saying which specifies that it is not easy to make it alone in this world. We need ourselves. You need people in your life. You can’t make it alone. But you need the right set of people in your life. With the right people, you will succeed in life, you will go far and you will get a lot of the good things of life. That is what I mean that the who in your life will determine the what you will get from life, determine the how you will get it and where you will go to get it. If you mix up with bad people you’ll end your life in misery and despair. As the Holy Book says bad company corrupts good manners.

With the right people you will make it. You need people who will support you, encourage you and criticize you if the need arises. You need mentors in your life. Seek out people of good character, people who have succeeded in the area of life you want to succeed. You can these people among close associates or outsiders. They could be your parents, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins, colleagues, classmates, etc. Seek for advice, guidance or direction from these people. But check that the advice is in consonance with your principles and belief and then do the right thing. You will surely succeed.

ACCEPT YOURSELF AND LIVE

Now you know that you are an incredible being, beautifully and wonderfully made in the image of God. Be happy and accept yourself as you are. Are you slim, fat, big, small, black, yellow, brown, white, you are beautiful. So be you, be real, be yourself. Be at ease with your self. Feel free to express yourself, your thoughts and feelings about things. Oh yes say your mind. Participate in the politics of your town, participate in church activities because you are capable of doing it all and I mean full participation. Appreciate yourself. Party as much as you want, go to meetings, conferences, live your life. Do more than live, exist. Commend yourself when you do some nice things, also commend other people. Be yourself. Have the strength and courage to do things they way you want. Being you is bliss.

Focus on your strengths and abilities, play down on your weakness. Don’t focus on your past unless you are learning something from it. Change anything about your self only when you want, not when someone say you should. If you are think you are fat and want to slim, then do it because that’s what you want. That way you’ll be sure of completing the process of slimming. Don’t slim because someone says you are fat or to please somebody. So that if that person dies or get sick or travels to a far way country you stop slimming, so change because YOU want to change. Get it. Make sure you make use of all your abilities, talents and gifts and apply them to the best capacity. Don’t let people say this about your life, according to John Mason, “he did nothing in particular, and he did it very well”. So live life to the fullest.

Power of Influence - Who is Influencing You?

I challenge you to start thinking about some of the major influences you have had in your life so far. As long as you have friends, family, you work or are involved in your community in some way, you will be open to the influence of others. The challenge is to analyse who or what is influencing you, and what are they creating in you?

Our beliefs or actions can be influenced in many different ways. Watching, listening, studying or experiencing the results that certain behaviours generate will affect how you see things consciously and subconsciously.

I find it interesting to think about how I have been influenced by the different events of my life. We are taking in extraordinary amounts of information every day. As long as you are talking to others, listening to others, watching television, reading newspapers, surfing the Internet, calling your friends, reading literature, experiencing life in general, you cannot escape the information that is flowing around you.

Information is interesting, as we often assume that what is said or written is true. We need the ability to distinguish between what is opinion and what is fact.

How do we filter that information, to only use the information that is going to help you achieve your goals? How do you decipher between what is useful information and what is potentially harmful information?

Ask yourself what or who are some of the influences that you have had in your life? What beliefs do you hold, or what actions have you taken as a result of these influence?

Here are the philosophies I have developed around listening to the opinion of others:

- I only wish to take the advice of those who have already achieved what I am aiming to achieve.
- Be mindful when participating in office chit-chat, networking events, dinner parties and family events: one needs an ability to distinguish between fact and opinion.
- Surround yourself with a team of professionals with the validated experience and knowledge to help you achieve your goals.

Self-development is also a powerful influence; here are my philosophies on self-development:

- Read at least one self-development book per month (ideally one per week).
- With knowledge, motivation and action, anything is possible.
- Learn by studying how other successful people have achieved their results.

It has been said that the books you read and who you associate with is a reflection of where you will be in five years time.

One challenge I set you is to minimise the amount of news you watch. Next time you watch a news broadcast, take note of the percentage of stories that are about death, destruction and despair. Be open minded about what value it is bringing to you. People have said to me, but I should know about what is going on in the world. Yes, that may be true, however my challenge is that why do I only have to know about what bad things are happening in the world? If you like the news, make sure you even out what information you are feeding your mind before you go to sleep at night. Have a motivational book by your bedside and read a few chapters or a few pages before you go to sleep.

Do You Know You

You are a truly unique individual. The holy Book tells us that you are wonderfully and fearfully made. Do you know that? Well check it out in….. God loves you that much that he has to take time to mould you. Again out of the million sperms that started the race of life only you survived, is that not something. Oh! Yes it is. The re is only one you in the whole world. There is no replica of you anywhere in the world. What’s more there can never be another you ever again. Are you getting the picture, of who you really are? Sometimes there’s this temptation of comparing yourself to other people, their achievements, their accomplishments. You shouldn’t do that. You know why, because you are unique, you are different; God has a unique plan for you, just for you. And it is different from other people’s plan. You are here for a purpose.

So stop feeling discouraged about your looks, your progress, your success, when you compare yourself to others, infact don’t ever measure your self by other people’s standard. Rather you measure you success by thy how much you are walking in God’s will for your life, think on how much you are fulfilling your destiny. Refuse absolutely to compete or compare yourself with other people. Focus on your dreams, learn from your past not someone else’s. Dream of a beautiful future for yourself. Celebrate your uniqueness, enjoy your life very well and live it to the fullest. That way you will fulfil your destiny using your God-given talents, attributes and abilities. Go on and live a wonderful life.
